While a decision prohibiting a local polyamory group to march in Mardi Gras Parade was eventually overturned, that their exclusion was even considered raises questions about how we view the LGBTIQ community, writes Tommy Berne.
Sometimes
I get too enthusiastic when I talk or I’m ranting about something. And people think I’m pissed about something.
I get so freaking involved in what I’m doing or I’m genuinely passionate about what I’m saying and I come across too frank or like I’m raging at the person I’m talking to. I hate upsetting people.
What really fucks with my head though is when...

Something I'm getting more than a little sick of
The amount of hate there is against people who are not sex workers, discussing sex work.
A LOT of people have been throwing this around the tumblrsphere lately and if it’s intended in a different context, then it’s probably worth clarifying, the blanket statements are starting to get a bit tired.
I talk to a lot of non sex worker’s about sex work. Often because they’re...
Hard not to feel like crap when someone’s barely talking to you.
And you’re feeling sick and gross and they’ve made it infinitely clear they’re aware of it.
I’m so tired of feeling like I’m a pain to be around.

Sex worker: No
Fauxminist: Pay taxes, std tests, cops!
Sex worker: Cops are a bunch of abusive, middle class rapists, who murder disabled people people of color and trans people , taxes for sex are bullshit, and std tests force sex workers to have to have unprotected sex in order to keep clients who is going to make sure that the clients aren't infecting sex workers? Seriously who?
Fauxminist: Adimitedly I don't know much about sex wo...
Sex Worker: Then shut the fuck up.
Fauxminist: But...
Sex worker: NO
Fauxminist: I'm a sex worker too!
Sex worker: Eww you reek or privilege get away from me*hisses*
How just about every conversation about sex work(I mean the term that was created as a better way to say prostitution) goes with every feminist.
TGWL: It's a shame that this appears to be the main example of dialogue this person has had with feminists regarding sex work. I've been fortunate, despite many conversations just as frustrating as this colorful example, to have had a number of constructive talks with feminists I know and some I don't about the industry and they've had some fairly enlightened POVs. Admittedly, being on the 'front line' as it were, does give you insight that someone who isn't a sex worker wouldn't have, but it's pleasing to know that people are at least trying to educate themselves on the realities and that more feminists etc, are actually talking to feminists about some of these issues.
